Story Consultant vs. Script Doctor vs...

I always avoided the term "script doctor" because it makes it sound like the script is sick. When I started reading and noting for money, I figured I needed to know the difference between the various professions and positions around scripts and stories. This is as much for me as anyone else. I need to constantly remind myself what these things are called.

Script Doctor - Script Doctors are basically hired gun screenwriters who come in to handle very specific assignments after money has already changed hands. This is big deal, big money stuff. And uncredited.

Ghost Writer - Ghost Writers are hired writers who do uncredited rewrites.

Story/Script Consultant/Analysis - Reading and noting, suggestions and ideas. Script / Writing Coach - Coaches help writers get through projects, meet deadlines, stay in shape.

Joke Punch Up - This is someone who adds jokes and makes existing jokes funnier.
